Zegras Leads Gulls To Weekend Sweep With Dostal

I always find it interesting that when the NHL team is not playing as well as they should, the AHL team is great, and vice versa. Not saying the Ducks are bad, they are 5-5-3 in a division that is really just between the Avalanche and Golden Knights.

The Gulls though, the Gulls are something to watch this season if you get the chance. The Gulls took on the Bakersfield Condors in the AHL’s opening weekend that saw them sweeping the weekend off of impressive play from Trevor Zegras and goalie Lukas Dostal, with honorable heroics to Drysdale in game 2 of the weekend.

The Gulls opened the season with a 4-1 with an insanely stellar game by Trevor Zegras. Zegras put up 1 goal and 2 assists in his first AHL game. The real star was in net as Lukas Dostal stopped 29 out of the 30 shots he faced. Jacob Perrault also impressed as he got his first AHL point off of an assist. Dotsal, a 2018 third round pick, is playing in his first AHL season with a fantastic 2-0 start. Game highlights below:

Zegras first goal:

The Gulls second game of the season game on Saturday night, with yet another Zegras show. The Gulls blew past the Condors with Zegras putting up a goal and an assists with Jamie Drysdale finally getting on the goal sheet with a goal and an assist. Zegras gets the game winning goal. Brayden Tracey went pointless over the weekend. Dostal also impressed as he faced an impressive 40 shots, only allowing 3 behind him.

There is not doubt in my mind that the San Diego Gulls are going to be an absolute force to reckon with in this crazy 2021 AHL season, and I really cannot help but feel like Zegras is banging on the NHL door with 5 points in 2 games this weekend.

The Gulls play again this Wednesday for the Ontario Reign who just dropped one versus the Henderson Silver Knights, then play again on Saturday versus the Colorado Eagles.

The Barracuda and Reign are not looking as strong as fans would hope, so the real challenges for the Gulls this year lay in Nevada and Colorado.

I would not be surprised if Zegras got 10 points before he hits 10 games.
